WHAT IS THE MEL YOUNG EASTER CLASSIC?
The Mel Young Easter Classic is one of New Zealand’s longest-running representative basketball tournaments, bringing teams from across the country to Tauranga for four action-packed days of basketball over Easter.
The tournament caters for age groups from U12 through to U20 and provides Coast Basketball players with an opportunity to represent the association, compete against quality opposition and enjoy a fantastic tournament experience with their teammates.

Junior Trials (U12 & U14)
Location: WGP College
Cost: $20 paid at trials via eftpos or cash
Trial #1: Sunday 29 November
Trial #2: Sunday 6 December

Call backs
Saturday 5 December (morning) – U16 Boys and U18 Boys only.
Process
- 29 Nov – 6 Dec: Trials and Uniform Orders
- Saturday 5 Dec: Call backs (U16 Boys and U18 Boys only)
- December 13 (approx): Selections
- December: Invoices out following selections. A first non-refundable payment of $200 is required to confirm selection, and part-payment is available to pay remaining fees.
- December 16 (TBC): Manager meeting after selections
- End of January: Weekly trainings begin (Whangaparaoa, Dairy Flat School, Wentworth College)
- 28 February: Full payment due. Payments are non-refundable.
BRING
- Appropriate training gear with a black and white top
- Non marking or Basketball shoes
- Water Bottle
- No need to bring personal basketballs
Team numbers are subject to trials and selections.
