The Hibiscus Royals All Girls Academy is a dedicated basketball programme for girls in Years 4–8, providing a fun and supportive environment to develop skills, build confidence and grow their love of the game.
Whether they’re new to basketball or looking to take their game further, there’s a place for them with the Royals.
MORE THAN JUST BASKETBALL
The Royals Academy is about creating an environment where girls feel comfortable being themselves, trying new things and developing at their own pace.
Led by qualified and experienced coaches, sessions combine basketball skill development with teamwork, game understanding and plenty of opportunities to play.
Players will have the opportunity to:
Develop fundamental basketball skills and game understanding
Build confidence on and off the court
Learn how to play and work within a team
Support and complement their school basketball experience
Make friends and enjoy basketball alongside other girls
Most importantly, we want girls to enjoy coming to basketball and want to keep playing.
WHO IS ROYALS ACADEMY FOR?
Girls in Years 4–8
The Royals Academy is open to girls with different levels of basketball experience.
You don’t need to already be an experienced player. The programme is designed to provide an inclusive environment where girls can develop from wherever they are in their basketball journey.
For girls already playing school or club basketball, it provides another opportunity to develop their skills and confidence. For newer players, it provides a welcoming place to learn the game alongside other girls.
All abilities are welcome.
WHEN & WHERE?
Royals Academy sessions run once a week during the programme term.
Where: Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre
When: Sundays, 10:30am
Session length: 60 minutes
Age group: Years 4–8 | Girls only
Cost: $50 per player*
Current programme dates and session times are available when registering.
*A one-off $5 Basketball New Zealand membership fee applies to U14 club members and is charged only once.
PART OF THE ROYALS PATHWAY
The Academy is an opportunity to develop, but it can also be the beginning of something more.
Hibiscus Royals is Coast Basketball’s all-girls basketball club, providing girls with opportunities to continue into club and competitive basketball as their confidence, skills and love of the game grow.
That means girls can start by learning and developing in the Academy, before exploring further opportunities to train, play and compete with the Royals.

A typical day includes warm-up games, skill-building drills, sport-specific training, team challenges, and fun group activities. There are also scheduled breaks for snacks, lunch, and rest. Each day balances structure with plenty of active play.

Campers should bring a water bottle, sunscreen, lunch (unless provided), athletic shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and any necessary medications. We’ll provide any sport-specific equipment unless otherwise noted.

Medical forms can be submitted via our online registration portal or emailed directly to [camp email address]. All forms must be submitted before the first day of camp.

Our staff is certified in CPR and first aid, and we maintain a low camper-to-coach ratio for close supervision. We also follow safety protocols for heat, hydration, and equipment use. Allergies and medical needs are documented and closely monitored.

We have indoor facilities and alternate activities planned in case of rain or extreme heat. We’ll communicate any schedule changes via email or text to parents as early as possible.
